Discussion Title: Should copyright laws favor readers more than authors? 1. Copyright laws should favor readers more than authors. 1.1. Pro: People can freely share what they know without worries about it being copied by someone else maliciously and them getting into trouble from it \(as no side can get into trouble anymore if it's always permitted\). 1.2. Pro: It'll make it [easier](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XO9FKQAxWZc) for authors to release their content into the public domain. 1.3. Con: Copyright laws are there to protect the authors/creators from copying and stealing of original ideas. 1.4. Pro: Free access to all materials actually encourages people to buy more from authors than less. 1.4.1. Pro: That's one of the reasons why artists actively put their content out for free: to gain notoriety for their work, so that followers can funnel funding directly to them \(through what an artist sells\), rather than giving it to third party intermediaries - due to not caring about the artist enough to care where the money goes. 1.4.2. Pro: Since people can follow through and 'connect dots' better through looking through freely shared content, they can connect with it enough to appreciate the work and be motivated enough to help benefit the author somehow. 1.5. Pro: Content providers would be less afraid of lawsuits for providing content \(even if they're able to legally\), due to a better understanding of their capabilities \(i.e. less confusion\).
